The idea for the slide become from sculpture of Isamu Noguchi named Slide Mantra which in my opinion fit very well in Earthly Delight style as the spiral shape which remain fox shell. There is opening where stairs begging under top of the slide. The slide is a one curl start and finish low with middle point up. However, I'm planning to work on it and remove the sharp edges.
I start to sketch ovals shapes at an angle and connecting together to create a rolled form. After that I was playing with the outer form until I was satisfied with it. I chose more smooth design. The biggest problem I faced was a perfect size, I cant decide if it should be about first floor level or higher. For my location I chose already occupied part of Western Park, Leicester, the spot is on elevated ground so I came to conclusion to make it tall, this way it could be used as observation point. Next step was construct the way of entry to the top, I always lived around castles and medieval towers where staircase grew round close to the centre, this way I could utilise the space inside the sculpture. However, in old days and modern Britain people like stiff and narrow passages not very safe for active and wild kids, because that I hope I managed to design wider staircase with an angle of recommended 35 degree. In the middle of the sketch board I illustrated with figures estimated proportion of the slide.
